Children’s Services

Happy Family with a disabled childThe children’s programs at BCL provide support to individuals ages 3 – 22 and their families. The purpose is to help them maintain the family unit and avoid the out-of-home placement of a child. Several programs provide positive behavioral supports for youth with unique needs to help them develop skills, reach their unique goals and achieve their fullest potential.
Supports include a broad range of services that are provided directly by program staff or individuals are referred to other resources in the community. These supports assist in meeting the individuals’ needs in areas that include Medical, social, educational, housing and transportation.

Intensive Family Flexible Support

The primary goal of IFFS is to help families who are experiencing severe stress which could lead to the child being at-risk of out-of-home placement. This service consistes of intensive case management that is designed to help families integrate the variety of available resources to support their family member in crisis, and flexible funding to purchase additional supports or goods. The service is available to the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) eligible children between the ages of 3-18 who are living in their family home or with other primary caregivers such as grandparents.

DESE/DDS Program

This program provides in-home and community-based therapeutic supports to students ages 6 to 22, who demonstrate a need for services to prevent a more restrictive out-of-home residential placement. This program also offers an increased level of support services to families whose student returns from a residential school placement and requires assistance to remain at home. The program is administered by DDS with funding from the Dept. of Elementary and Secondary
Education (DESE). Funding is subject to an annual legislative appropriation from the state budget.

Children’s Recreation Program

In collaboration with the Arc of Bristol County, we focus on social skills and building friendships. Children participate in community activities such as sporting events, dance classes, gymnastics, taekwondo, sensory friendly movies and more. We also hold two Friends Nights each month with various activities including Drums Alive classes.
